TSU Customers:
Recently Tanning Supplies Unlimited’s owner, Mike Gilley, traveled to Washington DC to attend “Capitol Hill Day’ to join with other tanning industry professionals to lobby for the Repeal of the Tan Tax. Mike succeeded in getting the first co-sponsor of the bill, Representative Todd Young from Indiana. First we would like to thank Mike for his efforts and the tens of thousands of dollars he has spent, a lot of which was his personal funds, to fund a study on the FDA’s report on indoor tanning, to fund lobbying efforts against the Tan Tax and even more funds to agencies to spread a good message on tanning to counteract a lot of the negative press the tanning industry gets on a daily basis based on junk science.
Tanning Supplies Unlimited is dedicated to the tanning industry’s success and we believe that to succeed we must all band together to aid in protecting the rights of tanning salon owners and of the tanning customers. This includes working to repeal the Tan Tax as well as paying attention to state and local governments that have active bills pending to put unnecessary legislation on the tanning industry, and to do what we all can to see that these bills aren’t passed or are amended in ways that won’t take away the rights of tanners and tanning industry professionals.

Please pay special attention to the call to action for you to help by visiting the ITA’s website to help in the efforts to save YOUR industry! TSU cares about the tanning industry, show you do too by helping in any capacity you can, from writing letters to donations. Whatever you can do, big or small, is necessary to see that the industry you to have chosen and believe in survives, and thrives into the coming years. Pass this email on to your tanning industry peers, customers, friends and relatives. It’s important for EVERYONE to get involved in this. We CAN repeal this tax if we all work together, but we need your help. Thank you in advance for your participation! Together we can keep the tanning industry alive and well!

TO: Indoor Tanning Association Capitol Hill Day Attendees
FROM: John Overstreet
Last night Congressman Grimm introduced H.R. 2092, a bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the excise tax on indoor tanning services. The legislation included the following original co-sponsors: Rep. Patrick Tiberi, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D., Rep. Todd Young, Rep. Frank Guinta, Rep. Steve Stivers, Rep. Tim Walberg, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, Rep. Marlin Stutzman, Rep. Marsha Blackburn, Rep. Brett Guthrie, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Rep. Richard Hanna, Rep. Kevin Yoder, Rep. Mike Pompeo, Rep. Lynn Jenkins, Rep. Bill Huizenga, Rep. Lee Terry, Rep. Sam Graves, Rep. Rick Crawford, Rep. Jeff Denham, Rep. Reid Ribble, and Rep. Mike Rogers (MI).
Many of these names include people with whom you met last month and are on the list because of your efforts. This bill can also add additional co-sponsors, so it’s not too late to contact your congressman’s office and add more names to H.R. 2092.
During our Capitol Hill Day on May 4, Dennis and Glen Guerrette (Suntan City) and Lewis Henry (Devoted Creations) met with Sen. Olympia Snowe’s (R-ME) staff and asked for her help in repealing the tan tax. I am pleased to report that she has agreed to sponsor the Senate companion version of the legislation. Senator Snowe is now recruiting original co-sponsors and has not filed her bill as of today. However, I understand it will be the same language as Congressman Grimm’s bill. In many ways, Sen. Snowe is a perfect fit; senior Republican on the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship; member of the Senate Finance Committee and a moderate who is well respected by both political parties.
To bolster Congressman Grimm’s and Senator Snowe’s repeal efforts, we have set up links on the ITA website to send emails to Congress urging support for the repeal of the tan tax. Please go to www.theita.com and join the campaign. Those links will be up by close of business today.
A copy of the Dear Colleague letter that Congressmen Grimm, Tiberi and Roe sent to the House of Representatives is attached.
